By accessing or using African Table ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
1. About the Service
African Table is a food intelligence platform operated by NanoLeap Automation Systems (Johannesburg, South Africa). The Site organises publicly shared food recommendations across African cities into a curated, searchable directory.
We provide this service for informational and entertainment purposes. We do not directly sell food, make reservations, or represent any restaurant listed on the platform.
2. Use of the Site
You may use African Table for personal, non-commercial purposes subject to these terms. You agree not to:
- Copy or reproduce the directory data in bulk without written permission
- Use the platform to send spam or unsolicited commercial messages
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or disrupt the platform's infrastructure
- Submit false, misleading, or defamatory information via any submission form
- Impersonate any restaurant, creator, or other person
3. Spot Submissions
African Table accepts community submissions of food spots via our "Submit a Spot" form. By submitting a spot, you agree to the following:
3.1 Your Submission
- You confirm that the information you submit is accurate to the best of your knowledge
- You grant African Table a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and publish your submission
- You represent that you have the right to submit any content or links included in your submission
3.2 Our Rights
- We reserve the right to accept, reject, edit, or remove any submission at our sole discretion
- We may enrich submissions with additional data from public sources (social media, maps, etc.)
- Submission does not guarantee listing on the platform
3.3 No Payment for Submissions
Community spot submissions are free. Submitted spots are not guaranteed publication and do not constitute a paid listing or endorsement.
4. Featured Listings (Advertising)
Restaurants and food businesses may apply for a Featured Listing — a paid placement that provides enhanced visibility on the platform.
4.1 Pricing
Featured listing rates are available on request. Please contact us via our enquiry form at theafricantable.com/about for a rate card.
4.2 Terms of Advertising
- Featured listings are billed monthly in advance via PayFast
- Listings may be cancelled with 30 days' written notice via our contact form at theafricantable.com/about
- No refunds are issued for partial months
- African Table reserves the right to reject or remove any listing that violates these terms, promotes illegal activity, or is deemed harmful to users
- Featured status is clearly disclosed to users and constitutes advertising
- Advertisers must comply with South African advertising standards (ASA Code of Advertising Practice)
5. Content Usage & Creator Credit
5.1 Curated Social Media Content
African Table curates publicly posted social media content (TikTok videos, Instagram posts) from creators who have made their content publicly accessible. We operate under the following principles:
- We link directly to the original post — we do not host or re-upload video content
- Creator handles and attribution are displayed prominently on every listing
- We process only publicly visible content; we do not access private accounts
- Engagement data (likes, comments) is used solely to determine relevance scores
5.2 Takedown Requests
If you are a content creator or restaurant and wish to have your content removed from African Table, please submit a Content Removal request via our contact form at theafricantable.com/about. We will process all legitimate requests within 7 business days.
5.3 African Table Original Content
Editorial summaries, scores, and guide content produced by African Table are our original intellectual property. You may not reproduce, republish, or commercially exploit this content without written permission.
6. Premium Guides
African Table sells digital PDF guides via Gumroad. All guide sales are final. Guides are for personal use only and may not be resold, redistributed, or republished. Guide content reflects conditions at time of publication and may become outdated; we are not liable for inaccuracies caused by changes in restaurant operations.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
African Table is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that:
- Restaurant information (hours, menus, prices) is current or accurate
- The platform will be uninterrupted or error-free
- Any particular restaurant will meet your expectations
Restaurant details change frequently. Always verify directly with the restaurant before visiting.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, NanoLeap Automation Systems and African Table shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from:
- Your use of or inability to use the platform
- Any reliance on information displayed on the platform
- Dining experiences at restaurants discovered via the platform
- Unauthorised access to or alteration of your data
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount paid by you to African Table in the 12 months preceding the claim (or R500 if no payment was made).
9. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall first be subject to good-faith negotiation. If unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the South Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg.
Nothing in these Terms limits your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
